Eddy Current Damper

Eddy current damper utilizes the currents generated by the relative motion of a set of permanent magnets and two sets of metal plates (copper or aluminum) to dissipate energy and generate a damping. The eddy currents are dissipated in metal plates (copper or aluminum) due to the electric resistance of the aluminum and converted into heat. This product can provide linear damping, free of mechanical parts, liquids in pressure and power supply. The eddy current damper can be applied to TMD or be installed independently on the bridge/building structures.
